Travel to the Philippines for a holiday you will never forget
There’s no getting away from it, the Philippines is a hard sell for travel agents for clients based in the UK.
The Department of Tourism in the Philippines recorded a 4% increase in the total number of visitors from 2023 to 2024, up to 160,296 of us. Out of a total number of 5.9 million foreign visitors, we make up a very small proportion.
Yes, the Philippines is a long way to go. There are currently no direct flights, so the overall journey time is usually anywhere between 16 and 24 hours, with some 8 hours lost on the way out because of the time difference… of course 8 hours saved on the way home.
But what a reward awaits you when you get there. The Philippines has some of the best beaches and Islands in the world according to many of the award giving magazines. The wellness facilities are among the best in the world.
The Philippines has extraordinary wildlife, from massive whale sharks to tiny tarsiers, and the Philippine Eagle is a sight to behold.

It has some very unusual geographical features such as the Chocolate Hills in Bohol (not made of Chocolate, unfortunately!) and the lake inside a volcano inside a lake inside a volcano at Lake Taal.
And talking of volcanoes, the Philippines is not short of volcanoes to hike and explore.
It has a rich mix of cultures from indigenous to Spanish colonialism, so aptly seen in the North of the country in the city of Vigan, a blend of local, Spanish and Chinese architecture. The oldest China town outside China is Binondo just outside the Spanish fortifications in the capital city Manila.
Travel in the Philippines
Travelling in the Philippines can be a little challenging at times, but all part of the Philippines experience.
The colourful Jeepneys are slowly being phased out in favour of more environmentally friendly vehicles, but are still available in Manila.
As most of the tourist destinations are islands, you will reach most of them by internal flights, but there are some that are accessed by local boats or bankas.
Taxis or Grab vehicles are inexpensive and readily available in the big cities, but less so in the Provinces.
I use a variety of local agents to ensure that you can get from A to B and C as efficiently as possible
I have been a regular visitor to the Philippines and so I can help you to make the most out of your visit to the country, whatever your interests.
